California is very accepting of minorities, a little too accepting. It's great that California welcomes Hispanics and Asians, but they are treated better than we whites. If you're white, you have to fill out all this information to get a driver's license, including making sure you are from the state of California. But undocumented immigrants can get a license just like that WITHOUT being from California, let alone having citizenship in the USA. Sounds quite racist to me. Also, the white people in California are really nice to people of different races (not to say there aren't racist whites in California), but the other races will group together and want nothing to do with the whites because they think they are "racist". If you are Asian, African American, Hispanic, etc.. You will not experience as much racism as in most other states. If you are white, however, you will most likely experience some degree of racism. - Slipperyjack40

Everybody in California likes to think they are not racist. Most minorities Only stick to their own race while caucasians hang out with everyone especially those not white. People here act like they hate racism, but consistenly do things because of race. Ex. I know many of white people who voted for Obama only because they didn't want to feel like they were racist. I know minorities, mostly latino and black, that throw out the race card frequently because that's what they are taught to think when they are treated how they don't want to be by another race. California is also run by corrupt white people who are trying to bring socialism to keep the latino and black population oppressed by making us dependent on government to survive.

San Francisco is the worst. I'm from the South, and California is still the most racist place I've ever been. The South has a bad past to live down, but it's integrated and we live and work together and we share a culture. Racism is dying here. The races are more separated in Los Angeles than any other place I've seen. Everyone I saw working was Latino, and the white people all just seemed to be wandering around shopping or eating. I saw almost no blacks at all and was told that they stay in their "own areas." There was very little interaction, and a big discrepancy among who was working what kind of job. I know the South has a bad reputation, but I've never seen that kind of separation down here.

It is very racist in San Diego, even though I have degrees and certifications it remains very difficult for me to obtain suitable employment. It is no secret that most medical jobs here in San Diego ask for those who are bilingual which is almost always those who are not black. It is a shame that you cannot live in certain places in San Diego either, I have tried to live here but it is very hard if you want to make progress in your life. I am not a racist individual, I hope that people will someday re-frame from their fears about blacks doing as good or better than themselves in life.P.S. I hate San Diego California with a passion.

Yep California is racist still. In S. CA near the Fresno area- all the races are polarized against each other. I was surprised at how racist the Armenians were to the Mexicans since they were treated badly when they were the new "race" in the '40's and '50's. They weren't allowed in a country club pool, though they were allowed to join and pay dues in Fresno. Made me aware of the pecking order concept and how as each racial group gets a foot-hold, they are willing to stomp on the next guy down. So--i hold ALL minorities accountable as they rise in economic and political power since each group seems to emulate the group that oppressed them before they "made it". Just stop racism period. When we moved to N. Calif we were astounded at the "casual" racism. People expected it and were angered when we objected or "educated" them. I live in Sacramento, California and it's recast here but not obvious. Northern Cali loves Asians, Indians, and whites who are highly educated. There are many educated blacks here in northern Cali; yet, nobody hires them and an stupid excuse is always present such as lack of work experience, educated, or simply that there is someone with better credentials and experience than you have. In Cali, almost everything is based of economics, profit, and zip code. YEP, ZIP CODE. Depending on where you live depends on how you will be treated as a minority. San Francisco has more of a mixture of races; however, it's still a Caucasian's playground. The difference between the west and south USA is that the west is less vocal about racism. Racism exists but is discussed behind closed doors. In the south, tell you exactly how they feel to your face and don't hide anything.

Well, I've been away from Calif a very long time and miss home so much, I know it won't be the same, but it's still my home. So it's a ZIP CODE thing? Ummm with West I'm not sure about but the south yes they will tell you exactly how they feel, the culture in south don't really smile like they use to. They use to when I moved here in TN but again something has gone wrong everywhere. It's funny did people forget about 9/11? Look how many people came from everywhere to help. They didn't say "Oh Your of a different diversity culture, I can't help you." It's just sad so much hate, and crimes. Just keep putting positive thoughts out.
