I'm a native born Vermonter and lived here all my life. Years ago it was awesome (and conservative) but in the 60's and 70's all the draft dodging hippies fleeing to Canada found they need travel no further than Vermont. The Liberals have since flocked here and ruined this state. They have driven out businesses, taxed everything and made wages nosedive, all while inviting in Illegal Aliens and treating them better that the people who have worked and lived here all their lives. I hate to say it, but I'm selling out and moving my family the hell out of here very very soon. I'm thinking West Virginia.

Well before Mr. Obama was elected President here in Vermont our racists hid out with their ignorant native population. Now as the Southern and Western states began a backslide even a state up North like Vermont has turned out with regret a very backwards place when it comes to Racism. I have also noticed that those who do not seem to hate People of color don't stand up to their foolish neighbors and fellow community(many church goers) I will Always be White yet I will stand up for all the peoples freedom. Not doing so would make me a coward. Whatever your Race or Religion fight against Racism and help the future become better!

Lived in vermont for 10 years the most racist place I've ever lived by far. It should definitely be higher on this list. The rate of incarceration of black folks is on par with southern states like alabama and mississippi but they like to think of themselves as progressive. Be very careful if you are driving through this state as a black person or spending time here as any race other than white. It is a beautiful place the mountains and lakes are gorgeous BUT I'm not sure its worth the negative experiences.

Its bad in all but few states, I am thinking about move to wva also-all thes crime caused by poverty crap is bull. Everyone of us"poorfolks"have food, home, elect, water, T.V. 's, cable, e-net, phones, clothes-some of us actually work for it, to live a poor nice, peacful life. People robbing, stealing, dealing, attacking, killing are not doing it cause they are poor! Its their culture, its what they like, its what they teach. Its what is being puched/forced on everyone everywhere, if its not in your town-it will be-the gov seems to play poor folks of all races against each other, while they take our $$ waste it give it too others, then say we have no right to live with people who just leave each other and each others belongs the f alone, people who want to be together should be allowed to, them who don't should not be forced to-where is our freedom?

This state is top of my list and I've been in most states and lived abroad many years. I'm 7/8 white. I'm 1/8 Cree. I've been here a year and it's just insane experience after insane experience, because some people assume I'm Hispanic and don't accept that a person who looks like me has a graduate degree. It's the denial of their stereotyping and fear and anger toward non-whites that really startles me though. In some ways, the depth of covert racism in the North is more brutal than the open bigotry in the South.

Okay, I'm not voting because I think Vermont is a horribly racist state. No, I just want my voice to be heard.Racism is still evident everywhere.No matter what we do, say, or think, it will never go away.It is because we are human, and as human we are prone to judgmental thoughts.I'm not saying I agree with racism- but I'm just saying that after years of fighting it, it'll never completely go away.

White people love following African Americans around in stores, they love to stare at us like we're less then them. I can't go to the farmers market with my friends without being stared at, cut in line, called slurs, or being followed around. I hate Vermont. Not only that white teachers in schools favor white students than, African American students.

I second the experience of the international girl working at the pharmacy. I noticed that people in Vermont will swear/very loudly cuss at people of color, but will not do this to other white people. When confronted, they deny that they are being racist. They seem very intolerant towards people of color and look down on them for any success they achieve.

Vermont is a "reverse racist" state. The "white guilt" exuding from the extreme liberals who have invaded from Massachusetts New Jersey is sickening. They gloat when they hear that a native Vermonter can't find room in the homeless shelter on a sub zero night, but all the Somali Refugees are GIVEN brand new townhomes to live in! EVERYONE should be treated the same!

Vermont is not ready and they are not willing for diversity it appears to be a threat to the backwoods tradition. I have lived in Vermont for 50 years I am still on survival mode.. If you are a person of color Vermont is not a vacation place for you or your family. It appears that they are still 40 years behind.
