Very judgmental people, not welcoming to outsiders, they think that their state is the best in the US, well I have been to all 50 and it is in the top 5 worst states. The people are not willing to try new things, for example if a new bridge, or new building goes up everyone is against it. They DO NOT accept change. Also I find it odd that they have a very gross stereotype, such as the accent, lack of education, all country hicks, what pissed me off when I lived there is that the residents are okay with that stereotype and tend to mock it because the think it's "cool", even if that's not them. God forbid there be change in this state or everyone will freak out. I lived there for 18 years and am now happily from Arizona. Such a waste of a state

I agree about Maine. They are too blunt and don't really realize they're being rude. I went to a department store with my best friend and this young woman from Maine. My friend isn't thin exactly and the young woman from Maine said " Fat makes you look older than you are by 20 years, why not get a bathing suit to cover up the fat" My friend didn't say anything till the young woman was gone but she told me afterwards how deeply hurt her feelings were, she said the comment made her feel like nothing. I told her I agreed with her and that this person from Maine had no tact at all. My friend and I are both from California, and we were raised to be careful with people's feelings. I felt the girl didn't like my friend and this was a jab. The other troubling thing was the young woman's lack of personality, I would say she was robotic.

Maine is disgusting. The people are just so toxic. What people think of as that weirdo "Mainah" hillbilly thing---is actually personality disorder. The people are just so geographically isolated, white, badly educated, afraid of anything different. My family is from Maine and I really really hated living there. So much nasty nasty abuse of children, animals, the environment, drugs, bad traditions, bad culture, bad ways of interfacing with the world at large. Steven King's stories like It and Castle Rock pretty much describe living in Maine, he just turned the bad guys into supernatural monsters...when in Maine, their your neighbors and extended family FOR REAL. Maine has the most widespead mentally unwell/ personality disordered population I've encountered anywhere. It's just so homogeneous in Maine. I live in Northern Maine and the people are actually very kind. People hold doors for other people, and I could greet a random person and they'll respond. The only thing is, the plow trucks suck! So you've just shoveled snow, the plow truck comes and just leaves MORE snow to shovel right after.Over all, Maine has nice people but one of the worst drivers I've seen.

Ive been living in Maine for two years now because Im going to college here. Everyone that I have met so far who was born and raised here is an a-hole. I try to joke around and be friendly with people but most of them give me a snarky look or a fake smile. Needless to say I have yet to make any friends at my school due to this nasty additude people seem to have towards me. I also find the people I do talk to and actually like conversing with were not born or raised in Maine maybe its just a crazy conspiracy (Im sure there is a group of nice mariners) I just havent found them yet
